So...

Thus begins my career as a blogger.

Why?

Why not?

And!

Because it's on the "internets" It's all true. Every.thing.I.say.

Our Deepest Fear

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness,
that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?
Actually who are we not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Write on it!

So, I was going to blog about my day yesterday, but then I decided not to because A: I don't want everyone to think Im a spastic bundle of nerves, drama queen, freak-out, whiner baby....cuz Im not. and B: I just didn't have the energy to blog.

Anyway!

Today was the snow day that I was dreading. Seriously. I have had more than enough togetherness with these kids. Say it isn't so, right? Yeah, no. It's enough. Let's go back to last week on Wednesday night. Declan got sick. Fast forward to Friday, she has double ear infections. Saturday Rourke got sick, and later that night Zac got sick. Sunday Sebastian woke up feeling nasty, and Gaige got sicker as the night went on. Monday was a holiday for me (thank you!) and Griffen was the only kid to go to school. Griffen was also the only child that absolutely, no way in hell could get sick. Griffen had an MRI scheduled for Wednesday.

Tuesday found me working until 12:30, then hauling all 6 kids to the Pediatrician. This was fun. I think at this point, I was ready to stab a fork at the next kid that hacked that juicy gurgling yakking cough in my direction. Strep x 4. Yay us! Can it get any worse? Yes, sometimes it can.

Wednesday I went to bed around 1:45am. Got up at 4am and left with Griffen for St Louis Children's and Barnes Hospitals. We had the MRI and a follow-up consult after. I'll politely skip the parts where I turn into a pacing maniac with my blood pressure keeping a steady 400/250 at least.

So today, the snow day. The jist of my blog is about today. Enough with the rest of the crap. We made snow ice cream. Really. I even ate some. And I don't like ice cream! Wow. Thanks, Tanya. You really are a genius. We played outside. We had a blast!

This evening, the girls were wound for sound. Shrieking, screaming, chasing each other, carrying Declan around, and even dropping her. I had had enough. E.NOUGH. Yeah. So, after feeding them more snow ice cream, chicken tenders for supper, teeth brushing, I was doing the 'get yourselves into that bedroom and get in those beds or I'm going to annihilate you' song and dance routine that I do about twice a week. Griffen and Rourke absolutely would not have anything to do with listening.

They kept playing.
They kept screaming.
They kept roughing around.

Rourke snatched Griffen by her left hand.
Griffen freaked out. She comes stomping in the living room to tattle...completely forgetting the fact that she isn't supposed to be freaking playing around in the first damn place! "Mom!!! Rourke can't be snatching me in my cyst hand! She has to stop! Make her stop! If she's going to grab me, then tell her not to grab my cyst hand!"

Not to be outdone in the least, Rourke screams from the bedroom - "WELL TELL HER TO WRITE CYST ON HER CYST HAND!!"

There you have it, folks. No matter what you're supposed to be doing, no matter what you are doing, no matter what else is going on..... To avoid confusion in any situation, just label everything properly and we'll all get along just fabulously.

Cheese Cream

Rourke - 'Mama, can I have some whipped cream?'
Me - 'Rourke, we don't have any whipped cream.'
Rourke - 'Yes we do! I'll show you!'
Me - 'Ok, if you can show me whipped cream, you can eat ALL.OF.IT.'
Rourke - (comes prancing in the living room with...) 'SEE!!!'
Me - 'Rourke, this is strawberry cream cheese.'
Griffen - 'UH!! I WANT WHIPPED CREAM TOO!'
Rourke - 'GRIFFEN! IT'S WHIPPED CHEESE!'

Im dying. Whipped cheese? Seriously?

Rourke comes prancing back into the living room.
'I accidentally opened the cheese cream. Can I have some now?'

Knock yourself out, kiddo.

Hump Day!

Yeah.

Totally overrated.

Snow days are the bane of my existance

Yeah. This much snow is what is keeping my kids home. It's keeping me home. It's wittling away at my sanity. My last nerve. Really. It is.

Ha.

I remember as a kid...you lived for snow days. You got up at the crack of dawn, you got dressed, you played outside until your fingers were frostbitten. You stayed outside until you were threatened with bodily harm if you did not come inside. You made up games. You skated on the frozen cow pond. You had snow ball fights.

What you did not do was: sleep until 11, with your mom banging on the walls threatening you bodily harm if you didn't finally get your lazy butt out of bed. You did not whine about not getting to watch your favorite show. Again. You did not whine about anything. Why? Because YOU! WEREN'T! IN! THE! HOUSE!

I finally had to put the kids to work. Fold the laundry. Clean your room. Vacuum the rug. Feed the dog. Feed the rabbits. Swap the laundry. Clean the bathroom. These kids did not ask to go outside. Make a snowman? ARE YOU NUTS?! It's COLD!!! outside!

Noooo! We'd rather sit in the house and bicker about who got to use the most nail polish. Because you do know, that hogging nail polish is probably punishable by death in other countries. I'm not fully educated on those laws, so at our house, it just gets your nail polish thrown in the trash if it causes too much of a commotion.

I remember thinking that snow was gorgeous. It was glorious. It was BEAUTIFUL! Now, as a grown up, I know what snow is. It's crap. It's a wet floor waiting to happen. It's dirty and mucky and slimy and just plain gross. It's the shit that glues your car doors shut so not only are you cold, but you look like a moron while you are trying to pry your door open. It's the shit that soaks the bottom of your jeans if you are like me and happen to be just a hair shorter than EVERY.ONE.ELSE.IN.THE.WORLD. It's the shit that makes you feel guilty, yes, guilty! for putting your 120lb dog outside to do his business. He'll give you that look that says 'hey mom, where's my coat?! do you seriously want me to go out in that?! for real! are you nuts?!' Yes...guilt.

Snow means that there is no running outside. It means that you try to drag your self up on the treadmill to knock out 3 quick miles and about 1/3 of the way into the first mile, you realize that you keep your house entirely too hot to do anything but lay around panting. I know how the Lions in Africa feel now. It means that when you turn the heat off, open the living room window, and kick the ceiling fan up on high, you will have the kids, the dog, and the people driving down the street looking at you like you've lost your ever lovin mind.

I think that if there is another snow day....it's going to mean Captain Morgan and Coke.

Good night! =)
